GDF SUEZ Signs
15 Year Lease on
New Aberdeen Office
Fast-growing North Sea operator GDF SUEZ E&P UK today agreed a 15 year lease on GDF SUEZ House. The new building on the city’s North Esplanade West will accommodate up to 300 people as the company ramps up its activities across the UK Continental Shelf.
The 40,700 square foot flagship office was developed by Miller Cromdale and constructed by Balfour Beatty. The company is currently split across four bases in Aberdeen; Union Plaza, Holburn House, City Wharf and Petrofac, and the new office will consolidate all the teams in one location later this year.
GDF SUEZ House is the first building in Aberdeen to achieve the BREEAM Excellent rating under the 2011 criteria. Underlining its environmental commitment, GDF SUEZ will also implement an ongoing scheme to maintain the high environmental standards achieved in the initial build throughout its lifecycle.
Jean-Claude Perdigues, Managing Director at GDF SUEZ E&P UK, said: “The lease signing today is a significant step in the new build project as we move ever closer towards relocating all of our people under the one roof to provide an ideal hub for our operations and developments team.
“This is of particular importance as more of our assets come onstream, with our flagship project Cygnus - which is the largest gas discovery in the Southern North Sea for 25 years - targeted for first gas in late 2015. The next milestone in the Cygnus development is currently underway with the first subsea and topside installation campaign taking place infield at the moment.”
The innovative architecture of GDF SUEZ House, which was designed by Halliday Fraser Munro, creates a light and airy office space, configured to maximize its functional resilience. The design creates an environment for collaboration, providing positive working surroundings for staff to deliver strong performance towards the company’s future ambitions as an operator on the UKCS.
GDF SUEZ recognised the potential of the riverside area for re-development after an extensive assessment of the Aberdeen real estate market during 2011 and 2012. Re-developing a brownfield site sits within GDF SUEZ Group’s emphasis on a sustainable office environment.
The company has also recently taken a 3 year lease on a 1406m² warehouse at Waterloo Quay. The base will be used as the receipt and dispatch facility for all cargo to be shipped or returned from onshore and offshore locations.
